Project: School of Business, Economics and Law – Part of Västlänken

As part of the Västlänken expansion, the northeastern corner of the School of Business, Economics and Law was demolished to create space for a roughly 30-meter deep excavation through soil and rock. This excavation will eventually serve as one of the entrances to Haga Station. Once the station is completed, the excavation will be backfilled, and a new school building constructed above it.

The project faced stringent technical and environmental challenges, especially concerning water intrusion. To prevent settlement and protect the surrounding historic buildings, it was essential to ensure a completely sealed construction. The solution comprised a combination of jet grouting between the sheet pile toe and bedrock, followed by curtain grouting around the entire excavation, along with systematic bottom grouting.

The work was conducted within a highly confined area in central Gothenburg, with a strong emphasis on precise control, testing, and measurement throughout the grouting process. This project exemplifies the complex coordination required between geotechnical, environmental, and logistical demands in an urban setting.
